European Master Drawings

The Central European drawings are currently the best-known of the over 1400 master drawings in the Crocker collection. Holdings include strengths especially in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, as seen in this gallery. Italian drawings are well-represented, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries, while the French and Northern European collections also include many rare and beautiful sheets.

Famous drawings from the collection include Albrecht Dürer’s Nude Woman with a Banner, Jacques Callot’s Study for the Martyrdom of St. Sebastian, and Jacques-Louis David’s Funeral Procession of a Warrior. In addition, there are important drawings by François Boucher, Vittore Carpaccio, Roelandt Saverij and Peter Lely among others.

A small but select prints collection (approx. 200 sheets) includes representative examples by the major masters of printmaking with a focus on 19th- and early 20th-century French artists.
